What is Codenames Darija?

Codenames Darija is a free online multiplayer version of the iconic Codenames spy word game, played entirely in Moroccan Arabic (Darija). It is exclusive to Good Night Community, the largest Moroccan-origin Discord server, and the first major Codenames implementation in Darija. Two teams of four or more compete to identify their agents on a 5x5 grid based on one-word clues from each team’s Spymaster — first to find all their agents wins, but step on the assassin and the game is over.

How to play

1. Form two teams — split into a Red team and a Blue team with at least two players per side. Each team picks one Spymaster who can see which words belong to which team.
2. Spymaster gives a one-word clue — on your turn, the Spymaster says a single Darija word followed by a number indicating how many of the 25 board words it relates to.
3. Guess your team’s words — teammates discuss and tap the words they think match the clue. Tapping a neutral or opponent word ends your turn.
4. Avoid the assassin — one word on the board is the assassin. Tapping it ends the game instantly and your team loses, no matter the score.
5. Win the round — the first team to identify all of their agents wins. Rotate Spymaster roles between rounds and play best-of-three.
